How Vinny Got Back in the Game
I still remember Vinny Testaverde in the national championship when he played with the Miami Hurricanes 23 YEARS AGO. I thought to myself, this guy is going to be amazing.
Well, he never won the Super Bowl, but this two-time All-Pro quarterback is still playing in the NFL at the age of 43. That’s right 43. And he’s not just “hanging around,” he’s the starting quarterback with the Jaguars and kicking a$$ this season!
To me, this is amazing for someone to still be playing at such a high level of competition in what I consider the roughest sport by far. He must have a secret. A special supplement? How about a special workout? What is it because that’s what I want to do???
Vinny’s secret is variety. He is constantly changing his workout routines and doing new things. His workouts are always surprising his body so it doesn’t adapt or reach a plateau. Another word you could use is “cross training.”
Here’s some of his current workout activities:
Harnessed Energy. On flat and uphill surfaces Vinny runs 10 to 15-yard sprints wearing a harness attached to his trainer to create resistance. Sounds interesting . . . think I’ll try it one day.
Pool Running. In four feet of water Vinny runs for 10 minutes doing high kicks, butt kicks and sprints. This is a great workout and you won’t get hurt. I’ve been doing this kind of workout for a few years and know it’s super intense and you won’t get hurt. I keep telling people “water fitness is for elite athletes too; not just mature adults.” And did you take notice that 10 minutes is all you need.
Core Training This is how he keeps his agility and incredible balance while avoiding getting sacked. Nothing surprising here.
In my opinion, Vinny is the most underrated NFL quarterback playing the game today. He is a role model player everyone can learn from.
