Within the past year it’s become a good marketing practice for food industry giants to claim they no longer use trans fats in their products. They realize the American public is finally catching on to the very dangerous partially hydrogenated oils that have been proven to clog and damage your arteries and that have been staple items in many food items, such as frozen foods, cookies, doughnuts, ice cream, and even some protein shakes.
But, did you ever stop and wonder what other potentially dangerous ingredients they are using instead? Most people think the corporate giants are doing a great deed and are now very concerned about the public’s health. I don’t think so.
In my opinion, their main motive is profit . . . even at the cost of the public’s health. And right now, it’s profitable to state “NO TRANS FATS” on the label.
Instead, many corporate giants have been quietly replacing their partially hydrogenated oils with another fat that is equally as dangerous, palm oil. Palm oil contains no trans fats, but its saturated fat content is 55 percent. This is not good. Stay away from this stuff!
My question is . . . why can’t these companies once and for all switch to oils such as canola or grapeseed oil, which have no trans fats and are less than 10% saturated fat?
This is one reason why health food stores like Whole Foods Markets are experiencing incredible growth and expanding rapidly (there’s a new Whole Foods Market being constructed now just 5 minutes from my house in Sugar Land and I know they are going to succeed). They don’t sell food items with trans fats. I get the feeling people trust Whole Foods Markets and believe they are actually concerned about the public’s best health interests, unlike the corporate giants.

Saturated Fat doesn’t even come close to transfat. Saturated fat can be moderated and won’t hurt you in moderation.
Transfat is bad no matter how much you use.
I’m not trying to protect the food industry, they are guilty as charged, but I think your point of view could be taken more seriously if you don’t exaggerate.
